Teen brought a gun to a baptism and shot baby’s father
A 19-year-old Texas man was arrested following a shooting at a family gathering celebrating a child’s baptism, authorities say.
Leonardo Asis Campos Torres was taken into custody in the early hours of July 27 after gunfire erupted during the event. According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Dallas-based Fox affiliate KDFW, Torres allegedly shot 35-year-old Cristian Gabriel Montes following a confrontation.
Montes, who is reportedly related to Torres, had accused the teen of firing a handgun at his vehicle earlier that evening. Both men were attending the baptism celebration for Montes’ son.
Witnesses told police the two men were seen arguing before Torres allegedly drew a 9mm handgun and shot Montes. Officers recovered multiple spent shell casings near a Chevrolet Tahoe at the scene.

After being read his Miranda rights, Torres allegedly admitted to the shooting but claimed it was in self-defense. He told investigators he retrieved his firearm after Montes allegedly assaulted him.
Torres’ booking photo shows visible injuries, including two black eyes. The origin of those injuries has not been confirmed.
Medical staff at Baylor University Medical Center, where Montes was treated, reported he had been shot at least twice — once in the chest and once in the back. According to police, this may indicate that some shots were fired as Montes was turning or falling.
Torres is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail following his arrest by Balch Springs police.
