Neil Young Goes After Trump in New Protest Song
Legendary rocker Neil Young has released a new protest track titled “Big Crime,” taking aim at the policies of President Donald Trump, according to The Guardian. In the song, Young, 79—the same age as Trump—denounces the deployment of federal troops in Washington, D.C., and rails against authoritarianism.
“Don’t need no fascist rules / don’t want no fascist schools / don’t want soldiers walking on the streets,” Young sings. The track continues with lines such as, “Got to get the fascists out / got to clean the White House out … no more money to the fascists, the billionaire fascists.”
Although Trump is not mentioned by name, The New York Times notes Young makes a pointed reference: “There’s big crime in DC at the White House.”
Now a dual U.S.-Canadian citizen, Young has expressed concerns about re-entering the United States after international travel due to his outspoken political views. “If I talk about Donald J. Trump, I may be one of those returning to America who is barred or put in jail to sleep on a cement floor with an aluminum blanket,” he wrote on his website earlier this year, as reported by Rolling Stone.
Young has previously clashed with Trump over the use of his music at political rallies without his consent.
