Trump Threatens Soros and Son with RICO Charges

Former President Donald Trump issued a warning to billionaire philanthropist George Soros on Wednesday, accusing him and his allies of harming the United States and calling for legal action against them.

In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump claimed Soros and his “group of psychopaths,” including what he described as “Crazy, West Coast friends,” have caused significant damage to the country. He suggested that Soros and his son Alex Soros should be prosecuted under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act due to their alleged involvement in supporting violent protests.

“George Soros, and his wonderful Radical Left son, should be charged with RICO because of their support of Violent Protests, and much more, all throughout the United States of America,” Trump wrote. “We’re not going to allow these lunatics to rip apart America any more… Be careful, we’re watching you!”

Trump’s remarks come after a report by the New York Post earlier this month claimed that Soros’s Open Society Foundations (OSF) funded groups that organized protests during the Trump administration. However, The National News Desk noted it could not independently verify the report’s findings.

A spokesperson for OSF dismissed Trump’s claims as “false and outrageous,” emphasizing that the organization does not support violence.

“The Open Society Foundations do not support or fund violent protests. Our mission is to advance human rights, justice, and democratic principles at home and around the world,” the spokesperson said.

OSF also reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful civic engagement, stating: “We do not pay people to protest or directly train or coordinate protestors. All OSF grantees are required to comply with the law, and we expect our grantees to uphold our shared commitment to human rights, dignity, and nonviolence.”

According to the New York Post, OSF granted $4 million in 2023 to Community Change and Community Change Action, groups focused on empowering low-income communities of color. These groups have reportedly supported “Free DC,” an organization that has staged protests critical of Trump.

In a statement issued Tuesday, OSF noted it funds a wide range of nonprofit organizations across the country that work to promote human rights, justice, and democracy. The foundation emphasized that some grantees engage in peaceful civic activity, which it described as vital to a functioning democracy.

“The Open Society Foundations oppose all forms of violence, including violent protests,” the statement concluded..
