“They Stole $550 Million Dollars From Me” – Trump Celebrates Overturned Penalty in Letitia James’s “Fake” Civil Fraud Case
A New York appeals court on Thursday overturned a significant civil fraud judgment against President Donald Trump in the case brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Last year, Judge Arthur Engoron ordered Trump to pay over $355 million and barred him from serving as an officer or director of any New York corporation for three years. The judge ruled that Trump and his associates had engaged in fraudulent business practices, including falsifying records and inflating asset values in financial statements submitted to insurers. One of the controversial points in the trial included Engoron’s valuation of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate at $18 million, a figure widely criticized by Trump’s legal team.
Trump has consistently called the case politically motivated and part of a broader campaign to undermine him. On Thursday, he celebrated the appeals court decision on his Truth Social platform, calling it “A GREAT WIN FOR AMERICA!” and described the lawsuit as “election interference.”
Later in the day, Trump visited law enforcement officers and National Guard troops in Washington, D.C., where he reiterated his claims that the case was “fake” and part of a long-running political witch hunt against him. He told the gathered officers:
“They stole $550 million from me with a fake case, and it was overturned. It’s a terrible thing, but that’s a nice victory… I’ve had more witch hunts than any human being, I think, in history.”
Trump also thanked the officers and expressed his continued support, vowing to “make Washington, D.C., great again” and stating, “We’re making our country great again.”
The decision has also brought renewed scrutiny toward Attorney General Letitia James, with some media outlets reporting allegations that she may have submitted inaccurate information on loan applications—an accusation similar to the one she brought against Trump. James responded to the appeals court’s ruling by stating she intends to appeal the decision.
