Dog named ‘Dallas Cheddar’ rescued after spending days with head stuck in cheese ball bucket: video

A stray dog in Pennsylvania who spent days wandering with a cheese ball container stuck on her head is finally safe — thanks in part to a volunteer drone operator who helped track her down. Fittingly, the rescue named her after him.

The dog, severely malnourished and infested with ticks, had been evading capture for days despite the efforts of the Canine Rescue of Central PA, several thermal drones, and local volunteers. She navigated through York County with limited vision through the tight plastic container — a large snack jar once filled with cheese balls.

The rescue effort included support from Find Toby, a nonprofit dedicated to recovering lost dogs, and Nighthawk Drone Services, a licensed drone company known for helping in everything from agricultural analysis to missing person searches.

Finally, around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, a thermal drone spotted the disoriented pup in a cornfield. In video shared by the rescue group, the dog appeared calm but confused as rescuers approached. She turned her head repeatedly, seemingly trying to understand what was happening through the distorted view of the plastic jar.

Rescuers safely leashed the dog and rushed her to an emergency veterinary clinic, where the container was removed. Vets determined she was “severely emaciated” and likely hadn’t eaten or had water for at least three days due to the container blocking her access. She is now undergoing further bloodwork and treatment to assess for other potential health issues.

“She’s safe, she’s recovering, and she’s no longer alone,” the rescue group shared in a Facebook post. “We celebrate a life saved and the power of people coming together for one dog who matters.”

To honor her rescuer, the drone operator, the team named the dog Dallas Fuhrman, adding a middle name inspired by her cheesy ordeal: Cheddar. So for now, the brave pup goes by Dallas Cheddar.

She’s not ready for adoption just yet, but the rescue says she may be available once she’s fully recovered and cleared by vets.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time a dog has made headlines for a cheesy head trap. In 2023, a shelter in Michigan rescued a dog found with a cheese ball jar stuck on his head. They named him Cheeto, though one shelter worker reportedly pushed for the name “Jughead.”
