WATCH: Trump Slams Newsom and Pritzker When Asked About Ensuring Future Peace in Ukraine Following his Presidency – “Get a Good President, Not One of These Wackos Like in California”
President Donald Trump sharply criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker during an appearance on Fox & Friends Tuesday morning, warning that weak leadership could embolden adversaries like Russia.
In response to a question about how the United States can prevent further Russian aggression after his presidency, Trump said: “All you can do is make sure you get a good president — not one of these wackos, like in California that runs the worst state anybody’s seen, or that guy in Illinois, who his family threw him out of the business because he was no good.”
Trump dismissed Pritzker’s presidential prospects entirely, saying he has “zero chance,” while suggesting Newsom may have “a little bit of a chance,” though he criticized the California governor’s record.
Trump touted his own administration’s foreign policy record, claiming that under his presidency, Russia did not invade or seize territory — unlike under Presidents Bush, Obama, or Biden. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt echoed that message, stating: “President Trump is the only President this century, Republican or Democrat, who has held Russia in check and ensured peace in Europe.”
Leavitt also referenced comments from Russian President Vladimir Putin, who allegedly said the war in Ukraine would not have started had Trump been in office at the time.
Trump’s appearance came one day after a high-profile peace summit at the White House, where he reportedly hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and several European leaders for negotiations aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. This followed a prior meeting with Putin in Alaska, where the two leaders reached a preliminary agreement contingent on further discussions with Ukraine and NATO.
When asked by co-host Ainsley Earhardt how future U.S. leaders can deter further Russian advances, Trump replied that the key is electing a strong president. He also highlighted what he described as a strong pool of potential Republican candidates, calling them “superstars” and naming several individuals, including JD Vance and Marco Rubio, as examples of strong talent.
Trump additionally pointed to his administration’s record on border security, asserting that illegal immigration had been effectively curtailed during his time in office and crediting the border wall as a major factor in that effort.
