FDA Warns Public to Avoid Eating Shrimp Potentially CONTAMINATED with Radioactive Material — Products May Have Been Sold at Walmart in 13 States

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is urging Americans not to eat, sell, or serve certain Great Value brand raw frozen shrimp sold at Walmart, after a sample tested positive for toxic levels of radioactive Cesium-137 (Cs-137).

Cesium-137 is a radioactive isotope produced by nuclear reactions and is known to pose serious long-term health risks—including cancer, organ damage, and genetic mutations—when consumed in high amounts over time.

The contaminated shrimp was imported by Indonesian company PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati (also known as BMS Foods) and distributed to Walmart stores across 13 states. The warning follows a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) investigation, which flagged radioactive contamination in shipping containers arriving at four major ports: Los Angeles, Houston, Savannah, and Miami.

Although the FDA claims that the shrimp sample that tested positive did not enter U.S. commerce, it acknowledged that Walmart had already received other shrimp shipments from the same Indonesian supplier after the initial radiation alert. These products were distributed in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, and West Virginia.

The FDA is now recommending a recall of all potentially affected product lots. Specific lot details have not yet been released.

Consumers who have purchased Great Value raw frozen shrimp are advised to check packaging and avoid consuming the product until more information is available.
