With Baby Missing, Cops Question Mom’s Kidnap Story

A California mother’s report of her infant son being abducted outside a retail store has sparked concern and confusion, as authorities now question the credibility of her account.

According to KABC, 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro was reported missing just before 8 p.m. on Thursday outside a Big 5 Sporting Goods store in Yucaipa. His mother, Rebecca Haro, told investigators she was changing his diaper near her car when a man suddenly attacked her and knocked her unconscious. When she regained consciousness, her baby was gone.

However, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department says Haro’s story contains several inconsistencies. Both Rebecca and the child’s father, Jake Haro, were interviewed by investigators. Authorities report that Rebecca chose to end the interview after being confronted with discrepancies in her statement, according to USA Today.

As the investigation continues, both law enforcement and the public are left with more questions than answers.
