Swatch Accused of ‘Clear Racism’ in Latest Ad
Swiss watchmaker Swatch issued a public apology on Monday following backlash over an advertisement that sparked outrage in China and other regions. The campaign, promoting the Swatch Essentials collection, featured an Asian male model making a gesture by pulling his eyelids upward—widely regarded as a racist and offensive stereotype, according to Swiss public broadcaster SRF.
In a statement posted to Instagram, Swatch said it had “immediately removed all related materials worldwide” and expressed regret, saying: “We sincerely apologize for any distress or misunderstanding this may have caused” and promised to handle the situation with “the utmost importance.”
