Fugitive Ditches Cops at Seattle Airport
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport saw an unexpected security breach this week after a burglary suspect escaped custody during transport. Authorities say 20-year-old John Nino was being extradited to Washington state on Tuesday evening when he slipped away from two Department of Corrections officers around 8 p.m. on the airport’s fourth floor, according to KIRO 7.
Nino reportedly fled toward the light rail and crossed the pedestrian bridge in the direction of International Boulevard (Highway 99), per KOMO News. Despite efforts by the Port of Seattle Police, he remains at large.
Nino, who was under community supervision for second-degree burglary, had a warrant issued for failing to attend mandatory meetings. He is described as 6 feet 2 inches tall, about 155 pounds, and was last seen wearing a red coat and gray sweatpants. He also has a distinctive tattoo above his left eyebrow.
This incident marks the second escape from Sea-Tac this year. In May, 29-year-old Sedric Stevenson eluded authorities while being returned to face charges in Kentucky. He remained on the run for six weeks before being apprehended at a Seattle apartment complex.
