Alaska Tourist Dies in Collision With Moose

A 24-year-old man from Bulgaria was killed early Friday morning when his vehicle collided with a moose near the entrance to Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska. The crash occurred around 1 a.m., according to CNN. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 24-year-old woman from North Macedonia, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was transported to a hospital in Fairbanks. Her condition has not been disclosed.

In a statement, park officials called the incident “a sobering reminder of the hazards of wildlife along Alaska’s roadways,” and urged drivers to remain alert and reduce their speed, especially at night.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game reports that the state sees over 800 moose-related vehicle accidents each year, with the majority occurring during winter, according to People magazine.
