Police tracking crimes near Migrant Center linked to Venezuelan gang
Last week’s shooting near the city’s Migrant Resource Center has some concerned crime in the area is becoming more violent.
For months police have been investigating cases involving prostitution, counterfeit documents and theft. The News 4 I-Team uncovered some of the cases have been linked to a notorious Venezuelan gang.
Teams of detectives working the area around the Migrant Resource Center have been encountering individuals with distinctive tattoos featuring a nautical compass, an eye, a rose and a clock face. All associated with a Venezuelan gang called Tren de Aragua, known for human trafficking and violence.
Martin Garcia moved his gift and decor business to another part of town recently. His previous location was near the Migrant Resource Center on San Pedro.
Garcia says loitering, panhandling and emerging crime prompted him to relocate.
