My Husband Wants to Use My Inheritance to Pay for His Spoiled Daughter’s Wedding

BY JAMILAH LEMIEUX

My husband has a 25-year-old daughter from a previous relationship, and we have an 11-year-old son together. I recently got a large inheritance from a deceased relative. My plans were investments, a vacation, and a large college fund for our son. My husband wants to use the money to pay for his daughter’s wedding. I am appalled because we are already on the hook for her college loans! She wanted to go to an extremely expensive private college and guilted my husband into co-signing her loan. Only she failed to graduate or attempt to make any payments. So we are stuck with huge bills and a tanked credit score.

My husband says the father paying for the wedding is traditional. I say not on the stepmother’s dime. My stepdaughter has zero remorse for the burden she dropped in our laps and even has laughed in my face when I told her we had to pick up more shifts to keep up the house and pay her loans back. Our relationship is strained and I am polite for the sake of my husband. but I will be damned to shell out thousands of dollars for an adult woman wanting to live off Daddy’s dime. We already had issues over my husband covering her credit card bills when she blew through her limit. She was a lovely girl when she was young but something rotten festered as she grew up, and it has only gotten worse. Help! I am very much thinking of ending my marriage over this.
