I Caught the Neighbor Kids Trashing My Adult Treehouse. The Aftermath Is Not What I Expected!
During the pandemic, I dusted off the old carpenter skills I learned restoring houses with my uncles and built an adult treehouse. My house sits on an acre of semi woodland, so I found the right tree overlooking the creek and built it by hand. It is pretty awesome and my sister even made custom pillows so people can sit out there in comfort. Well, my neighbors’ kids completely trashed it while I was away on business. I came back to find graffiti drawn and carved on it, all the pillows tossed into the creek, and broken beer bottles everywhere. I have security cameras around my house and saw my neighbors’ kids cutting across my lawn several times. My neighbors completely deny their kids did anything wrong, insisting they are “good” kids. I asked how good kids would trespass multiple times on my property and why their initials were carved everywhere in my tree house. And I said the parents should be really concerned about the beer. These are kids, not teens. The last conversation was not polite or productive. Now I am debating what to do next. I hoped my neighbors would see reason and just punish the kids and clean up. Now it looks like my options are to go to the police, pursue things legally, and piss off my neighbors, or let it go. I don’t really feel like being Elsa here. I put a lot of time, money, and pride into this project. Thoughts?
