2 police officers shot during Louisville protests over Breonna Taylor grand jury decision
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two police officers were shot Wednesday night during downtown protests that erupted after the grand jury’s decision to not charge the officer who shot and killed Breonna Taylor. Only one officer was charged with wanton endangerment.
Just before the city’s 9 p.m. curfew, two Louisville Metro police officers were shot while responding to a report of shots fired and later taken to Louisville University Hospital, the police department said.
A suspect was in custody, the police chief said Wednesday night. One officer was alert and stable, and the other was in surgery and stable, according to the department. Their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
The shooting happened at Brook Street and Broadway, an intersection several blocks from the center of protests — Jefferson Square Park— according to NBC affiliate WAVE.
The FBI Louisville field office said it had sent FBI SWAT to the scene and would assist in the investigation.
