Stepfather Arrested After Hospital Finds 10-Year-Old Girl Six Months Pregnant
A 33-year-old man has been arrested in Argentina after his 10-year-old stepdaughter was taken to a hospital with severe abdominal pain and found to be approximately six months pregnant, according to local media reports.
The girl’s mother brought her to Colonia Dora Hospital in Santiago del Estero province, where an obstetric examination revealed the pregnancy. Her mother reportedly told the doctor that the child had not yet begun menstruating.
The discovery prompted a sexual abuse investigation. The girl identified her stepfather, Julio Vivas, as the alleged abuser, according to the reports.
Prosecutor Guillermo Farias ordered Vivas’ arrest. Police took him into custody Tuesday morning at a rural property in El Bracho, where he reportedly lived with the child and her mother. Officers also seized his mobile phone for examination.
Investigators, including personnel from the Women’s Police Station, are gathering evidence and taking statements to establish the circumstances of the alleged abuse. Vivas remained in custody, according to the reports.
The girl’s grandmother told Argentine broadcaster Noticiero 7 that the child’s mother had met Vivas online. She said she had previously urged her daughter to be cautious about the relationship.
Expressing anguish over her granddaughter’s situation, the grandmother called for justice.
The child’s teacher said the discovery had shocked her. She described the girl as quiet and conscientious about completing her homework, adding that she had noticed no changes in classroom behavior that prompted concern.
Authorities have not publicly detailed the child’s medical condition, treatment plan or the protective arrangements made for her.
The allegations against Vivas remain under investigation.
