Obama held his first rally of the 2026 midterm cycle, but attention was drawn away from him and to the choice of music.

The former president was in Ohio on Saturday, October 24, as he hit the campaign trail to drum up support for Democrats ahead of the November midterm elections. Before 65-year-old Obama took to the stage, the crowd was treated to a DJ set – but things didn’t go as expected when a Nicki Minaj song started playing.

Minaj, 43, has been very vocal about her support for Donald Trump, with the 80-year-old president even describing her as his “favorite.” As a result of this, many of the rapper’s fans have turned their backs on her and stopped listening to her music.

A video of Obama’s rally was shared on X, with the audience heard loudly booing as the Minaj song played. One angry attendee shouted out, “Turn this off!” Someone else suggested they change the music to “Stevie Wonder or something.” The music then abruptly changed to a different song.

A clip of the moment was shared on X with the comment, “The DJ just played Nicki Minaj at the Obama / Abdul El-Sayed rally in Detroit, and everybody booed it, so they turned it off.”

Social media users praised those at the rally for demanding the music be changed. “Glad everybody booed her music,” one person wrote, as they also branded Minaj a “sellout.”

Someone else commented, “Lol it’s crazy we live in a world where you get the same reaction to Nicki Minaj as you do Kid Rock. She’s really actively campaigning with MAGA, man. She’s absolute trash for many reasons, but I truly never thought we’d be here lol.”

“Good! She sold her soul to Trump,” a third person fumed, while another X user echoed, “Grandma betrayed the people who made her for some quick bucks; this is what she deserved.”

One person predicted, “She’s OVER,” while someone else suggested, “Her music is more welcome at those r@cist m@ga rallies.” Other X users questioned why her music was playing at the rally in the first place.

“Knowing Nicki sides with the RIGHT, why would y’all play her music at an Obama rally?” one person asked. “The math is not mathing.” Someone else joked, “The DJ must not have been paying attention the last couple of months. Lol.”

Minaj has made her support of President Trump clear in recent months. She appeared on Fox News recently and urged young Americans to vote for Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections.

Appearing on Fox News’ My View with Lara Trump, Minaj called on the country’s young people to “vote red now!” She hit back at the idea that young people’s ballots carry little weight, telling them not to believe their voice “will not be heard.” Instead, she said, their “voice is very necessary right now for the country and for the world.”

Minaj argued that younger voters have the most at stake when it comes to the outcome of midterm races because they will “reap the benefits of whatever vote decisions we make now.”

During Saturday’s rally, Obama hit out at the Trump administration. “This election is our last best chance to at least rein in some of the foolishness of this administration,” he warned.

Obama added, “After two years of chaos and cruelty and corruption and incompetence, the likes of which we have not seen in the modern era, you get a chance to say, ‘enough is enough.'”

He also hit out at the rising prices of groceries and fuel. “If you thought everything was too expensive before ‘you know who,'” Obama said, referring to Trump without using his name, “Everything is more expensive now (says the guy who has an estimated net worth of $70 million)
