Woman Accused of Luring Victim Into Ambush Before He Was Shot, Beaten and Robbed

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Tennessee woman is accused of helping lure a man into a violent ambush that left him shot in the leg, beaten so severely that several teeth were knocked out and robbed of his cellphone over an alleged debt, authorities said.

Bailey Jobin, 23, and Joseph Polk, 20, have been charged with aggravated robbery in connection with the attack. Court records show Polk also faces additional charges, including employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and theft of property.

According to an affidavit, the victim told investigators he was picked up Wednesday by Jobin, Polk and another unidentified man. Authorities allege Jobin played a key role in bringing the victim along, persuading him to ride in the vehicle with the group.

The victim said the trio drove him to a residence on Pope Street in Memphis. Once there, another man arrived and confronted him about money allegedly owed in connection with a vehicle transaction.

Investigators say the confrontation quickly escalated. The victim was allegedly pulled from the vehicle and ordered to hand over money. He was then forced to strip naked and instructed to walk to the backyard of the property.

Instead, the victim reportedly refused.

“You’re going to have to kill me here,” he allegedly told his attackers.

According to police, Polk then pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the right thigh. After the shooting, two other men allegedly began punching the victim repeatedly in the head, knocking out multiple teeth.

The attackers then allegedly stole the victim’s cellphone before fleeing.

The wounded man was transported to a hospital, where he was treated and later interviewed by investigators. Authorities have not released an update on his condition.

The investigation led police to arrest Jobin and Polk. Both are scheduled to appear in court Monday as the case moves forward.

Police have not announced whether additional suspects are being sought.
