Laura Ingraham Says ‘a Lot of Republicans’ in Congress ‘Secretly Want Trump to Lose’ the Midterms So They Don’t Have to Pass Trump’s Agenda Legislation
WASHINGTON (AP) — Fox News host Laura Ingraham said Monday that some Republican lawmakers may prefer to see former President Donald Trump lose ground in the upcoming midterm elections, arguing that certain members of the party do not want to be responsible for advancing legislation he supports.
Ingraham made the comments during an interview with former Trump economic adviser Larry Kudlow while discussing new Census Bureau data. She said the figures show personal incomes grew more during Trump’s first year in office than during President Joe Biden’s first four years. Kudlow agreed with her assessment.
Ingraham questioned why Republican lawmakers were not promoting the economic numbers more aggressively. Kudlow responded by saying that workers in skilled trades — including pipefitters, electricians, welders and carpenters — were earning close to $200,000 a year. Ingraham added that the current economy represented “the best time ever for men without college degrees.”
Kudlow argued that Republicans were failing to communicate economic gains to voters. That led Ingraham to suggest that some GOP lawmakers might be comfortable with losing control of Congress.
“How many Republicans secretly want Trump to lose?” she asked. “I actually think there are a lot of Republicans on the Hill who will be happy not to have the burden of having to pass legislation. They’re almost going to be relieved for a little while, at least, to be in the minority.”
She said the lack of messaging on economic data was difficult to explain otherwise.
Her remarks come as the Nov. 3 midterm elections approach. Republicans are facing challenging polling numbers, with Democrats holding an eight‑point advantage on the generic congressional ballot. Trump’s approval ratings remain low, with recent surveys placing him in the 30s or low 40s. At the same time, voters continue to cite rising costs as a major concern.
A recent Fox News poll found that more than 60% of Americans consider high gas and grocery prices a “major problem” for their families.
