Another Day, Another Parking Lot Shooting… This Time Outside a McDonald’s

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. — In what has become an all-too-familiar American tradition, a family stopped at McDonald’s for a quick meal and instead got an unexpected side order of flying bullets.

Because apparently that’s just something people have to factor into lunch plans now.

According to police, Oscar Roman Miron pulled into the restaurant parking lot with his wife and three children on June 27. While his wife went inside to pick up the food, Miron remained in the car with the kids.

Then, because peaceful afternoons are apparently overrated, an argument broke out nearby.

Naturally…

…someone started shooting.

Police say the family had absolutely nothing to do with the dispute. They were simply sitting in their vehicle when gunfire erupted.

Miron was struck in the hip.

His 11-year-old daughter, Dora Belen Rivera, was shot in the head.

Doctors were able to perform surgery, but say the bullet remains lodged in her head because attempting to remove it now could cause even greater damage. She remains hospitalized in stable condition and faces what is expected to be a lengthy recovery.

Two younger siblings, ages 2 and 5, escaped physical injury but witnessed the entire ordeal.

Miron has since been released from the hospital and continues recovering at home.

Police arrested 18-year-old Ralph N-Kosi Blue III in connection with the shooting. He faces multiple felony charges, including aggravated battery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He is being held without bond.

Authorities emphasized that the victims were innocent bystanders.

Which raises an obvious question:

How many innocent bystanders are expected to dodge bullets before grabbing lunch becomes a low-risk activity again?

At some point, Americans may need to start checking two things before heading out for fast food:

Whether the ice cream machine is working…

…and whether anyone in the parking lot appears to be preparing for a gunfight.
