Grandma Suspected of Killing Daughter, Four Grandchildren Gets Brutally Cold Two-Line Obituary
When Amy J. Steadman died, her surviving family apparently had very little to say.
The 64-year-old New York grandmother, who police believe poisoned her daughter and four grandchildren before taking her own life, was memorialized with what may be one of the shortest—and coldest—obituaries imaginable.
“Amy J. Steadman, 64, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. Per the request of the family, services were held privately.”
That’s it.
No photograph.
No mention of loving family.
No list of accomplishments.
Not even the customary “she will be dearly missed.”
Authorities say Steadman was found dead inside her Mechanicville apartment alongside her daughter, Sarah Myers, 44, and Myers’ four children: Harper Harmon, 13; Hudson Harmon, 11; Gavin Harmon, 10; and Gracelynn Harmon, 10. Police had gone to the residence to conduct a welfare check after concerns were raised about the family’s well-being.
Investigators say a handwritten note recovered from the apartment strongly suggests Steadman intentionally poisoned the five victims before taking her own life. Police also found evidence indicating a mixture of prescription and over-the-counter medications may have been used. Toxicology results are still pending.
Adding another horrifying twist, authorities revealed that one of the children also suffered a stab wound.
Investigators have not officially announced a motive, but reports indicate the killings may have been triggered by an ongoing custody dispute. The children’s father, Brady Harmon, had recently won custody after a years-long legal battle and was preparing to bring the children home to Utah for the summer.
According to Harmon, when he spoke with Myers shortly before the tragedy, she told him the children were sick and unable to travel.
Instead, they were never seen alive again.
Harmon, who said he spent more than six years fighting for access to his children, has sharply criticized the family court system, saying repeated concerns about his children’s safety failed to produce timely action.
“The system is broken,” he said after the killings. “It takes way too long to get anything done.”
If police conclusions are confirmed, Steadman’s final act was one of unimaginable brutality. And judging by the obituary left behind, her surviving relatives appear to have decided she deserved nothing more than a name, two sentences… and silence.
