A brief, almost surreal moment of calm has emerged from the chaos that unfolded during Saturday night’s shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. A video circulating widely online shows one attendee continuing to eat his salad while others nearby took cover and Secret Service agents moved quickly to secure the area.

The man in the clip, nicknamed “salad man,” has been identified as Michael Glantz, a prominent agent with Creative Artists Agency whose clients include CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.
Glantz explained in an interview that he remained seated because he felt secure and was curious about what was happening around him. Speaking separately, he said his reaction was shaped in part by his experience living in New York, where constant noise and activity are part of daily life, leaving him unfazed by the situation.
He also pointed to two more practical reasons for not dropping to the floor. He said he has a bad back, and he was unwilling to lie down on the venue’s floor while wearing a new tuxedo, describing himself as very particular about cleanliness.
