An Oregon woman has filed a lawsuit after she says she unknowingly swallowed part of a human finger while drinking orange juice she bought from Trader Joe’s.
Julee O’Neil lodged the complaint Monday in Multnomah County Circuit Court, seeking $10,000 in damages plus legal fees from the company. The lawsuit stems from an incident in June 2025, when she purchased a 52-ounce bottle of Trader Joe’s organic orange juice with pulp from a store in Portland’s Hollywood neighborhood.
According to the filing, O’Neil had been drinking from the bottle over time and had nearly finished it when something felt off during a final sip. She initially thought it was an unusually large piece of pulp but quickly became nauseated and began gagging.
The complaint states that the object was actually a severed human fingertip with part of a rubber glove still attached. O’Neil believes she may have swallowed it before realizing what it was, after consuming most of the bottle while the fingertip remained inside.
She reported experiencing gagging, nausea, and a burning sensation in her mouth immediately afterward. The lawsuit also notes her concern that the fingertip may have come from a larger injury, raising fears about possible contamination of the juice.
Following the incident, O’Neil went to an urgent care clinic to seek medical attention.
