Homan Has Stark Warning for Spanberger: Keep Doing What You’re Doing and We’ll Just Send More ICE Agents

Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger, a Democrat, has faced growing criticism over the direction of her administration. Critics argue that despite campaigning with a more moderate image, her policies since taking office have shifted sharply to the left. As her approval ratings decline, opponents say voters are beginning to take notice of the change.

Border Czar Tom Homan is among those speaking out. Following several recent murders in Virginia that authorities say involved individuals who were in the country illegally, Homan criticized the governor’s approach to immigration enforcement and her resistance to cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He warned that if Virginia continues limiting cooperation with federal immigration authorities, the federal government may increase enforcement activity in the state.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Homan said that elections bring policy consequences and argued that Spanberger has changed from the law-enforcement-focused candidate she presented herself as during the campaign.

“Elections have consequences,” Homan said. “She ran on a law enforcement position, saying she was a career law enforcement person. She is a much different person now that she’s in the governor’s office.”

Homan also pointed to past federal efforts to increase cooperation with local authorities in other states, saying that stronger coordination between local jails and federal immigration officials can reduce threats to public safety.

He added that federal immigration enforcement will continue regardless of state policies. If states maintain sanctuary-style restrictions that limit cooperation with ICE, he said, the federal government could respond by sending more federal agents directly into communities to carry out enforcement operations.

“We’ll just send more teams into the streets, into the neighborhoods,” Homan said. “Because we’re going to do the job that President Trump promised, to make this country safer again, especially when it comes to illegal aliens who committed other crimes while they’re here.”

The debate intensified after several violent incidents in Fairfax County this year. Reports indicate that some of the suspects in those cases were in the country illegally, including incidents involving a stabbing at a bus stop, an attack with a machete inside a residence, and the killing of a three-month-old infant.

Earlier this year, Spanberger signed legislation that limits how much Virginia law enforcement agencies cooperate with federal immigration authorities. Her administration has defended the policy, saying that state police should not operate under the supervision or direction of ICE.

“Virginia State Police is a top-notch law enforcement agency,” Spanberger told reporters. “I don’t think it’s responsible for us, for me as governor, for the Commonwealth of Virginia, to put Virginia State Police under the supervision or direction of ICE. That is a change I made, I think it is the right one, I know it is the right one, and I stand by it.”

Supporters of closer cooperation with ICE argue that federal authorities are simply seeking assistance in detaining individuals accused of serious crimes.

Despite the criticism, Spanberger has defended her record and pointed to her election victory as proof of public support. She also dismissed negative polling and said her focus remains on delivering results for Virginians.

“I would say if everyone hated me, then why is everyone putting my face on their mailers for the referendum?” Spanberger said. “The only poll that matters is my election — a 17-point win. Now I’m doing the work for Virginians, and what matters to me in the end is what I’m delivering for the people.”
