Bizarre moment woman dressed as an Easter bunny steps in during wild gunfight
A woman dressed as the Easter Bunny became an unexpected source of comfort during a chaotic Easter weekend shooting in Bakersfield.
Gunfire broke out Sunday afternoon in a residential neighborhood, causing residents to scramble for safety. One injured person ran toward a group of bystanders, including someone wearing the holiday costume, KBAK-TV reported. Bakersfield police responded around 4:48 p.m. April 4 to reports of a shooting in the 4700 block of Half Dome Way. Officers found a dispute between residents and two individuals — a man and a boy — who had arrived in a vehicle, according to the Bakersfield Police Department, as reported by KBAK.

Police said both the man and the boy sustained minor injuries and were armed with loaded firearms. Additional victims were also treated and transported to the hospital.
Once medically cleared, the suspects are expected to be booked into Kern County Juvenile Hall and Kern County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and other firearms-related charges, according to KBAK. Surveillance footage captured the sound of multiple gunshots as people rushed to assist the injured, including the person in the Easter Bunny costume.

The individual inside the costume, identified as Sara, told Eyewitness News that one victim approached her for help after the shooting. “He’s like, ‘I just ran to you cause I felt like you were the safest, you’re the Easter Bunny,’” she said.
Sara helped apply pressure to the victim’s wound and provided water while waiting for emergency responders to arrive, KBAK reported.
