President Trump has delivered on his promise to secure the U.S. border since resuming office in January 2025, with illegal crossings reportedly down by more than 99 percent.
During the previous four years under the Biden administration, an estimated 15 million undocumented individuals entered the United States, leading to widespread concerns over border security.
Law enforcement agencies, including the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), continue to play a critical role in intercepting illegal crossings and apprehending human traffickers.

In a recent incident in Cameron County, DPS troopers pursued a smuggler transporting undocumented individuals. The vehicle, a white Ford Escape, also contained three bundles of marijuana totaling roughly 145 pounds. The chase ended when a trooper used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle. Several individuals attempted to flee on foot following the stop.
The driver, Anna Lilia Arriaga, and her passenger, Dilon Butler, both residents of Texas, were arrested on charges including evading law enforcement, smuggling undocumented individuals, and possession of marijuana. The undocumented individuals, who had crossed the Rio Grande, were transferred to U.S. Border Patrol custody. Last month, the Texas DPS seized methamphetamine valued at $3.4 million during a commercial vehicle traffic stop.

Article IV, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution outlines the federal government’s duty to protect states against invasion:
“The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.”
Supporters say that under President Trump, the rule of law and border security have been strengthened, fulfilling constitutional responsibilities and national priorities.
