A protest in Los Angeles quickly turned violent as participants targeted a federal building, leaving messages calling for attacks on ICE officers. Video footage shows demonstrators breaking concrete blocks to use as weapons while taunting agents behind a security fence.

Federal officials reported that at least two people were arrested for assaulting officers, and two federal personnel were injured by flying concrete. In total, authorities made around 75 arrests.

The Los Angeles Police Department deployed tear gas to disperse the crowd. At one point, officers tackled a man who resisted as the mob grew increasingly aggressive. Bill Essayli, First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, warned protesters on X that assaults on law enforcement would result in immediate federal felony charges. He later posted images of suspects, stating that those who threw concrete at officers were identified on video and would be apprehended.

Tensions escalated around 5:10 p.m. when demonstrators began kicking a fence near the Metropolitan Detention Center at Alameda and Temple streets, prompting LAPD to declare a citywide tactical alert. Authorities repeatedly instructed protesters to leave the area and to stop attempting to tear down gates or throw objects.

The unrest followed the downtown No Kings Day rally at Gloria Molina Grand Park, located across from City Hall, which started at 2 p.m. A march began at 3 p.m. as part of nationwide demonstrations against President Trump’s administration. Organizers initially maintained a peaceful protest, but violence broke out in the late afternoon.
