A Florida woman faces criminal charges after allegedly attacking an elderly shopper at a Walmart in Sunrise, Florida, reportedly telling the victim she “deserved” the assault.

Keri Estep, 34, was arrested and charged with battery on a person over 65 following an incident on January 23. Authorities say Estep struck and kicked a 79-year-old woman while both were waiting in line. The dispute began when Estep accused the older woman of cutting in line.

According to body-camera footage obtained by WPLG, the senior shopper told officers that Estep called her an “old lady” and said she “deserved it.” A Walmart security guard who witnessed the incident told police he intervened as tensions escalated. Estep claimed that the older woman had hit her shopping cart, which contained her baby, but the older woman denied this.

Police say the guard tried to separate the two women, but Estep managed to get around him and kick the older woman in the side. The victim told officers she did not require medical attention but wished to press charges.

In her account to police, Estep said she had been concerned for her baby’s safety and believed the older woman was acting aggressively. When shown Walmart surveillance footage that contradicted her version of events, Estep admitted her statements were inaccurate.

Estep was booked into Broward County Jail and released after posting $2,500 bail. Court records did not list her next appearance.
