Bruce Willis’ mom, 90, quietly moonlights as LAPD volunteer
For more than two decades, Marlene Willis has been a familiar and beloved presence at the West Los Angeles Police Department. At 90 years old, the mother of actor Bruce Willis has dedicated 22 years of her life to volunteering at the station, earning the affectionate nickname “Mrs. Willis” from officers who say her presence brightens their day.
“She embodies the very best of people who believe in the work our men and women do,” former LAPD Chief Michel Moore told NBC Los Angeles.
Mrs. Willis spends three days a week at the station, carefully reviewing police reports, making notes, and correcting grammar. “I want to help so much, so much. You have no idea. You cannot imagine how much I want to help,” she said.

Captain Rich Gabaldon, the commanding officer of the West LA station, praised her influence on the department. “Mrs. Willis is a very integral part of West Los Angeles and the LAPD,” he said.
Her commitment has not gone unnoticed. She was named LAPD volunteer of the year, an honor presented by Chief Moore. “While I can’t make her a cop, I can at least give her the greatest symbol of what it means to be a cop: a badge of the law center police department,” Moore said.

Despite her connection to Hollywood royalty, Mrs. Willis has always stayed humble. Moore noted that she rarely mentions her famous son or her family, focusing instead on the department she loves.
“This is my family,” she said of the LAPD. “I mean that 100%.”
