A Florida woman is facing multiple criminal charges after police say she assaulted a pregnant driver during a road rage confrontation, attacked another woman who tried to step in, and later bit an officer during her arrest.
Authorities in Orlando identified the suspect as 38-year-old Mandolyn Shaffer-Brockwell. She has been charged with burglary, aggravated battery on a pregnant person, battery on a person 65 or older, and resisting an officer with violence.
According to police, the incident happened on February 23 near the intersection of Millenia Boulevard and Millenia Plaza Way in Orlando. Investigators say surveillance video shows Shaffer-Brockwell stopping her SUV in the roadway, getting out, and running toward another vehicle driven by a pregnant woman.
Footage released by police reportedly shows Shaffer-Brockwell climbing onto the hood of the victim’s car and striking it before opening the driver’s door and repeatedly punching the woman. The pregnant driver’s child was also inside the vehicle during the attack.
Police reports say Shaffer-Brockwell shouted “Honk at me again” during the confrontation. The victim later told officers that the suspect had been repeatedly brake-checking her before getting out of the vehicle and launching the assault.
During the incident, a 68-year-old woman who had stopped nearby attempted to intervene. Investigators say Shaffer-Brockwell then attacked her as well, scratching the woman’s face.
The suspect left the scene, but officers were able to locate her shortly afterward based on descriptions provided by the victims.
When police attempted to arrest her, officers say Shaffer-Brockwell resisted. Body camera video shows her pulling her arms away as an officer tried to take her into custody. At one point she demanded to know why she was being arrested, and the officer informed her she was under arrest for battery.
After the officer forced her to the ground to gain control, police say Shaffer-Brockwell bit him while he attempted to restrain her.
Officers then took her into custody and transported her to the Orange County Jail. She is scheduled to appear in court on March 30.
