Iranian state media reported that an airstrike struck the Natanz nuclear enrichment facility on Saturday. According to Iran’s official Mizan news agency, authorities said the attack did not cause any radiation leaks. The Natanz complex, located roughly 135 miles southeast of Tehran, is the country’s primary uranium enrichment site. Satellite imagery previously indicated damage to several buildings at the facility during strikes carried out in the opening week of the current war. At that time, the United Nations’ nuclear monitoring agency stated it did not expect any radiological consequences from the attack. Natanz was also a target during the 12-day conflict that took place last June.
Elsewhere in the region, debris from an Iranian missile hit an empty kindergarten in Israel as the fighting in the Middle East entered its fourth week. An Israeli military spokesperson shared video on X showing damage to the building caused by the missile fragments. No one was injured because the building was unoccupied when the debris landed.
Residents in Tehran reported heavy airstrikes overnight and into the morning hours in the Iranian capital. In Iraq, a drone attack struck the headquarters of the country’s intelligence service in Baghdad, killing an officer, according to the Associated Press. No organization immediately claimed responsibility for that strike.
President Trump said Friday that he was considering the possibility of scaling back military operations in the Middle East. At the same time, the United States has deployed three additional amphibious assault ships and about 2,500 more Marines to the region. Trump made the comments on social media after Iran issued a threat warning of potential attacks on recreational and tourist locations around the world.
The signals from Washington came as oil prices surged again, contributing to a sharp drop in the U.S. stock market. Shortly afterward, the Trump administration announced it would lift sanctions on Iranian oil that had already been loaded onto ships, a step intended to help stabilize rising fuel costs. Trump has stated that he does not plan to send American ground troops into Iran, though he has emphasized that all options remain under consideration.
