Armed madman in purple Ferrari with pet duck sends newspaper deranged messages during police standoff

San Francisco has long been known for unusual sights, but residents were stunned this week by a particularly strange one: a man allegedly brandishing a gun while driving a purple Ferrari with a pet duck sitting in the back seat.

Police say 51-year-old Brian Currier was taken into custody Monday after he reportedly pointed a firearm at someone on the street.

Currier was often spotted with a pet duck riding in the backseat of a purple Ferrari.

Following the incident, authorities said Currier retreated to his apartment in the upscale Nob Hill area and refused to come out, leading to a lengthy standoff with police. People who live nearby told The San Francisco Standard that Currier had become something of a neighborhood character. They said he was frequently seen speeding through the area in his bright purple Ferrari with his duck, Daisy, riding along behind him.

While officers surrounded the building Monday afternoon, Currier allegedly sent a series of disturbing emails to the news outlet that suggested he was in an increasingly erratic state of mind.

One message, sent shortly before 2:40 p.m. with the subject line “EYE HEART SF,” reportedly warned that anyone in San Francisco who “stepped outside their home” would face “eternal torture.” Roughly an hour later, he sent another message claiming his apartment was surrounded by what he described as “child-torturing fake cop assassins,” and called on allies to come to his home to remove them.

After police eventually arrested Currier, Animal Care and Control took custody of Daisy the duck. Authorities say Currier now faces felony charges related to assault with a firearm. He was booked into jail at 11:03 p.m. and is currently being held without bail.
