The University of Florida announced it is deactivating its College Republicans chapter after learning that some members were involved in antisemitic behavior. This move makes UF the second public university in Florida this month to take action against a Republican student group facing accusations of racist or antisemitic conduct.

Earlier this month, Florida International University in Miami opened an investigation into a group chat linked to a Miami-Dade Republican Party official. The chat reportedly contained violent racist language, antisemitic remarks, and misogynistic comments. Students and prominent conservative figures at Florida International University were participants in the chat.

At UF, officials said they were notified by the Florida Federation of College Republicans that the Gainesville campus chapter had been disbanded after some members were found to have “engaged in a pattern of conduct that violated its rules and values, including a recent antisemitic gesture,” according to the Associated Press. University officials added that when the federation is prepared, UF will support the chapter’s reactivation under new student leadership.

The university emphasized its commitment to combating antisemitism and other forms of discrimination or harassment that threaten the campus environment, Reuters reports.
