Shell no! $50K in walnuts swiped from trucks in the Bronx, baffling state cops
A puzzling theft has left investigators searching for answers after thieves made off with an enormous load of walnuts worth about $50,000 from parked trucks in the Bronx.
According to authorities, the theft occurred around March 2 in the Hunts Point area. Two tractor-trailers were parked there carrying roughly 60,000 pounds of shelled walnuts stacked on pallets. At some point, the cargo disappeared, leaving police trying to determine how the suspects managed to access the trailers and when the operation took place.
Investigators believe the people responsible may attempt to move the stolen walnuts quickly by selling them through third-party vendors, wholesalers, or distributors in the New York City region.

State police are asking restaurants, food distributors, and other businesses in the food industry to stay alert. Officials want them to report anyone attempting to sell unusually large amounts of packaged walnuts, particularly if the price seems far below normal market value or the offer appears suspicious.
Authorities are still working to determine exactly how the trailers were entered and how the large shipment was removed without drawing attention.
Anyone who may have information related to the theft is asked to contact New York State Police Troop NYC at (212) 459-7800.
