A Ukrainian model known for adult-content work is speaking publicly about the incident in Dubai that left her severely injured and fighting for her life.
In March, 20-year-old Maria Kovalchuk disappeared after attending a high-profile gathering at a hotel in Dubai. For days, her whereabouts were unknown. She was eventually found critically injured on the side of a road.
Months later, Kovalchuk is sharing what she says happened that night. She recently gave an interview to Russian television host Ksenia Sobchak while recovering in Norway, where she is staying with her mother.
On March 19, Kovalchuk was discovered with devastating injuries, including a broken spine and numerous fractures in both her arms and legs. She was rushed to a hospital and spent time in a coma before beginning a long recovery process.
Authorities in Dubai initially said the injuries resulted from an accident. Police claimed that she had entered a restricted construction site and fell from a significant height. The Government of Dubai Media Office described the situation as an unfortunate incident that occurred while she was exploring the unfinished building alone. Officials stated that investigators found no evidence of criminal activity.
Kovalchuk and her family strongly dispute that explanation.
According to her account, the situation began after she missed a flight to Thailand while staying in Dubai. She says she met two men and two women at her hotel who offered assistance. One of the men reportedly told her he could arrange a flight to Thailand using his father’s private jet.
The group invited her to spend the night and attend a party in their hotel room. Kovalchuk said she felt comfortable enough to call her mother and explain where she was. She said she even made the call in front of the group to reassure her family that everything seemed normal.
However, she says the atmosphere changed the following day. Kovalchuk claims the men had been drinking very strong alcohol and began acting aggressively toward her. She said they mocked her and made statements suggesting she belonged to them and that they could do whatever they wanted.
She initially tried to treat their comments as jokes, but the situation quickly escalated. Kovalchuk says the men took her personal belongings, including her passport. She also said they appeared to be attempting to pressure her into sexual activity, which she refused.
Fearing for her safety, Kovalchuk says she fled the hotel room by climbing out onto a balcony and escaping. She ran toward a nearby construction site, hoping to hide inside the unfinished structure.
She said she entered the building and hid, believing the men were pursuing her.
Kovalchuk says she does not remember exactly what happened after that. Her next memory is being on the roadside while paramedics were responding.
Details about the exact cause of her injuries remain uncertain. Some media reports suggest she may have been pushed from a ledge inside the construction site before being discovered by a passerby who alerted emergency services.
Kovalchuk has also pointed out that more than three months passed before she was able to publicly discuss the incident. According to her, any surveillance footage that might have captured what happened had already been deleted by that time.
Following her claims, Ukrainian authorities have opened a human trafficking investigation related to the case.
Reports indicate that medical expenses for Kovalchuk’s treatment were covered by Dubai officials. According to The Sun, sources close to the family claim the assistance came with an expectation that Emirati authorities would not be publicly criticized.
The case has sparked intense discussion online. Many expatriates and social media users have questioned the official explanation that the injuries were the result of an accident, with some suggesting it was an effort to protect Dubai’s international reputation.
Others have raised speculation about so-called “Porta-Potty” parties, gatherings where extremely wealthy individuals allegedly pay women large sums of money to participate in degrading or disturbing acts.
As debate continues, some people online are demanding accountability for what happened to Kovalchuk, while others remain skeptical about parts of the story. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
