Alabama boy, 13, knocked out drunk abusive dad to stop him from strangling mom
A 13-year-old boy in Alabama fought back against his abusive father, leaving him bloodied and bruised, in an effort to protect his mother, police say.
Authorities report that the incident occurred Tuesday in Foley when Daniel Hernandez-Lopez, who is not a U.S. citizen, allegedly began choking the boy’s mother during a domestic dispute. The teenager confronted his father outside the home, at which point Hernandez-Lopez reportedly tried to strike him with a bicycle.

In response, the boy struck Hernandez-Lopez multiple times in the face. Police say the father, who appeared highly intoxicated and may have been under the influence of narcotics, sustained two black eyes, a severely swollen lip, and a gash on his forehead, and may have been knocked unconscious.
Hernandez-Lopez was arrested on charges of domestic violence and taken to Baldwin County Jail. His mugshot shows his injuries, including a bloodied face, black eyes, and swollen mouth.
