My Wife Insists Our Son Learn to Pee the “Manly” Way. This Is Ridiculous.
Dear Advice,
My wife and I have a 3-year-old son, and we’re about to start potty training. Lately, my wife has insisted that it’s important for our son to learn to pee standing up because she thinks it’s “more manly.”
This really bothers me. I’m a man, and I often pee sitting down—it’s comfortable and practical. When I mentioned this, she said she doesn’t blame me, but she judges my mom for letting me do it when I was a kid. She doesn’t want the same thing to happen with our son, so she’s determined that he start standing up from the get-go.
I honestly don’t know where she got this idea, but it seems a bit extreme to me. Can’t our kid just learn to pee sitting down for now, and figure out standing later if he wants?
