WATCH: “You’re Stealing My Dadgum Money, I Want it Back, and I Want Your Ass in Jail!”
Representative Tim Burchett (R-TN) sharply criticized the Department of Justice following a House Oversight Committee hearing on Wednesday that brought Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison to testify about the alleged theft of federal funds in Minnesota.
Burchett said he doubts Americans will see real accountability for what he described as billions of dollars taken from taxpayers.
“About $19 billion has been stolen,” Burchett said. “They’re going to cover for each other, nobody’s going to spend a day in jail, and everyone will just talk tough for the cameras.”
He pointed out that when he served in the Tennessee state legislature, $19 billion was roughly the size of the entire state budget.
“That kind of money being stolen is unbelievable,” Burchett said. “We need to have the courage to start arresting some of the people responsible.”
Burchett also criticized Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice, saying they need to take stronger action.
“They need to get off their backsides and do something,” he said. “People are fed up. It doesn’t matter if you’re a Republican, Democrat, or anything else.”
He added that Americans want stolen taxpayer money recovered and those responsible held accountable.
“You’re stealing my hard-earned money,” Burchett said. “I want it returned, and I want the people responsible put in jail.”
During the hearing, Walz and Ellison faced tough questioning from Republican members of the House Oversight Committee as lawmakers examined alleged fraud and misuse of federal taxpayer funds.
Earlier in the hearing, Representative Jim Jordan also challenged Walz over his statements regarding federal COVID-19 relief funds and allegations that officials attempted to cover up the misuse of those funds.
