Police in New York City are searching for three suspects after a homeless man was intentionally set on fire inside Penn Station on Monday night.
According to a report from the New York Post, one of the suspects allegedly ignited the clothing of a 37-year-old man who had been sleeping in the Amtrak Rotunda area of the busy transit hub near West 31st Street and Seventh Avenue at around 8:40 p.m. Two other individuals were reportedly present during the incident.
Emergency responders arrived quickly and were able to extinguish the flames. The victim was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was treated for injuries that authorities said were not life-threatening.
By the time police arrived, the three suspects had fled the scene. Investigators said the individuals have only been described by their clothing, and no arrests had been made as of Tuesday.
The incident adds to growing concerns about violent crime in the city’s transit system. In December 2025, a teenager was arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly setting a man on fire on a subway train near Penn Station.
More recently, a man was fatally shot on a subway platform in the Bronx. The attack also follows another widely reported case in 2024 in which a woman was set on fire inside a New York City subway car shortly before Christmas.
Police continue to investigate the latest incident and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
