Bill and Hillary Clinton testify in House Oversight depositions

Bill and Hillary Clinton appeared skeptical about the official conclusion that Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide during depositions with the House Oversight Committee last week. During the testimony, Bill Clinton seemed uncertain while his attorneys attempted to steer away from the question, and Hillary Clinton described Epstein’s death as “mysterious.”

The Clintons had previously declined to testify before the committee, prompting efforts by lawmakers to hold them in contempt of Congress. They later agreed to sit for interviews.

During his deposition, Bill Clinton denied that President Donald Trump engaged in any wrongdoing and appeared to push back when Democratic lawmakers tried to draw connections between Trump and Epstein’s criminal activities. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) said afterward that the Clintons did not appear to fully accept the government’s conclusion that Epstein died by suicide.

Epstein died while being held in a federal detention facility known for strict security protocols. Reports later indicated that guards failed to perform required checks, records were falsified to conceal lapses, and security cameras in the area were not functioning at the time.

The New York City medical examiner ruled that Epstein died by suicide by hanging. However, forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden—who observed the autopsy on behalf of Epstein’s family—said the injuries he saw were more consistent with homicidal strangulation, noting fractures to the hyoid bone and thyroid cartilage. FBI Director Kash Patel later dismissed those claims, saying he had not seen evidence supporting that conclusion.

During questioning, Rep. Lauren Boebert asked Bill Clinton directly whether he believed Epstein killed himself. Clinton’s attorneys initially objected and attempted to block the question until Boebert rephrased it to ask whether Epstein had ever appeared suicidal.

Clinton responded that he did not know.

“I only know what the medical finding was,” he said. “I’ve accepted it in my own mind. I don’t know what happened. None of us know.”

When pressed further on whether he accepted that Epstein had killed himself, Clinton said he had accepted that conclusion but added that uncertainty remains.

Hillary Clinton’s testimony included a similar tone of doubt. While discussing the timeline of Epstein’s legal troubles, she noted that he was eventually indicted for serious crimes and jailed, but that he later “mysteriously died” while in prison.

She also referenced the subsequent prosecution of Ghislaine Maxwell, saying the events should be viewed chronologically—from Epstein’s crimes and indictment to Maxwell’s later trial and conviction.
