Candace Owens slammed over new series that ‘investigates’ Erika Kirk: ‘Pure evil’

Conservative commentator Candace Owens has drawn fierce criticism after previewing a new video series she says will “investigate” Erika Kirk, the widow of slain activist Charlie Kirk.

Owens, 36, shared a teaser for the project, titled Bride of Charlie, on X. The clip opens with news coverage of Kirk’s assassination last September, then shifts to footage of Erika, 37, in the aftermath of his death. Erika became CEO of Turning Point USA following her husband’s killing. The trailer includes critical commentary about her leadership and references to Zionism and Israel, ending with imagery of Erika wearing a crown.

Erika is expected to attend Tuesday’s State of the Union as a guest of President Donald Trump.

The teaser’s release sparked immediate backlash online. “Pure, unadulterated evil. Who would put a woman whose husband was assassinated through this?” wrote media personality Meghan McCain on X. Daily Wire founder Ben Shapiro also condemned Owens in a video post, while Seth Dillon of satirical outlet The Babylon Bee questioned how Kirk would have reacted to the dispute.

Asked about the criticism, an Owens spokesperson told The New York Post: “We have no comment. The series will speak for itself.” In a follow-up statement, the spokesperson dismissed the reaction as limited to a “Zionist bubble” and said audiences were eager to see the findings about Erika.

Neither Turning Point USA nor Erika has publicly addressed the series. Owens has made repeated claims about Kirk’s widow since his death at age 31, with tensions reportedly persisting despite a meeting between the two in December.

Meanwhile, the man accused of killing Kirk, Tyler Robinson, 22, failed in a bid to remove prosecutors from the case. Robinson faces the death penalty if convicted of aggravated murder in the Sept. 10 shooting at Utah Valley University in Orem. His attorneys argued that the Utah County Attorney’s Office should be disqualified because a prosecutor’s daughter was present at the event, but a judge rejected the request.
