A Florida woman has been charged in a fatal hit-and-run after authorities say she struck a pedestrian with her SUV and continued driving, leaving him dead in the roadway.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 45-year-old Kerri Walden was stopped at a red light at Wiscon Road and California Street in Brooksville shortly after 4 a.m. on April 15, 2025. When the light turned green, she drove west on Wiscon Road and allegedly hit 45-year-old Jacob Mull as he crossed the street. Investigators say Mull was dragged about 87 feet.

Walden then drove roughly three miles to a nearby McDonald’s, where she began her work shift. Mull was later found dead in the road.

Troopers traced Walden’s vehicle using traffic cameras. When they located the SUV at the restaurant, its front bumper was missing and blood was visible underneath, investigators said. After being read her rights, Walden told authorities she knew she had “hit something” but believed it might have been a deer. She admitted stopping at a 7-Eleven after the crash and placing the detached bumper in her back seat. She never called 911 or reported the collision, according to the arrest report.

Authorities said DNA testing confirmed the blood on the vehicle matched Mull.

Walden was arrested Monday and booked into the Hernando County Jail. As of Tuesday morning, she was being held on a $5,000 bond on a charge of hit-and-run causing death.

Mull, described by family as a devoted father of three and grandfather of two, was remembered on a GoFundMe page as “a kind-hearted, gentle soul who loved everyone.”
