A Colorado man working as a delivery driver was subdued by dental office staff and patients after he allegedly assaulted a receptionist during a package drop-off, authorities said.

Michael Dewey Coleman, 31, was arrested Monday by the Lakewood Police Department and booked into the Jefferson County Jail. Investigators say Coleman arrived at the Emerald Dental office in Lakewood around 3 p.m. to deliver an Amazon package but instead allegedly grabbed a 21-year-old receptionist by the face with both hands and tried to kiss her.

According to an arrest affidavit cited by local stations KMGH and KDVR, the woman shielded her face and struck Coleman to push him away. He then allegedly pulled her from her chair by her clothing, partially exposing her while attempting to tear at her dress and grab her. Witnesses told police he appeared to be trying to sexually assault her.

After the woman fell back to the floor, she kicked Coleman, who then allegedly punched her in the face, breaking her nose. She told officers he struck her multiple times.

A patient in an exam room heard screams and rushed to the reception area, where he said he saw Coleman in an Amazon vest pulling at the employee’s dress. The patient tried to intervene and was allegedly punched as well. A male dental hygienist joined him, and the two men tackled Coleman and restrained him until officers arrived.

Police reported that Coleman initially seemed disoriented and “in an altered state of mind,” allegedly growling, sweating, and claiming he believed he was in Texas. He later became more coherent and acknowledged his location.

Dr. Stephanie Paswaters, owner of the practice, told KDVR she heard escalating screams and rushed to the front, where she saw a receptionist being attacked by a delivery driver wearing an Amazon shirt. She said the incident left staff and patients shaken, prompting the office to close for several days.

The receptionist suffered a broken nose, two black eyes, and possible strangulation injuries, police said.

An Amazon spokesperson told local media that Coleman had been delivering packages through a third-party contractor and was no longer working on Amazon deliveries. The company said it is cooperating with the investigation.

Coleman faces charges including sexual assault, unlawful sexual contact, second- and third-degree assault, two counts of criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, and harassment. He remains jailed on a $50,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 22.
