A Louisiana man is in custody after allegedly biting off part of a woman’s face during a domestic altercation, according to law enforcement officials.

Brandon Patrick, 31, faces charges of domestic abuse battery with serious bodily injury and false imprisonment, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

The attack occurred late last month at a home in Ponchatoula, a small town about 50 miles northwest of New Orleans near Lake Pontchartrain. Authorities described the incident as Patrick “biting off a portion of a female victim’s face during a domestic dispute.”

Investigators believe the conflict began several days earlier. “During the investigation, it was learned that the dispute actually began over the weekend, and the victim had been held against her will for days,” the sheriff’s office said. “The injury occurred during her escape. The victim is still hospitalized and undergoing treatment for her extensive injuries.”

Following the victim’s escape on January 27, deputies asked for the public’s assistance in locating Patrick, describing him as “a dangerous suspect who is wanted in connection with a gruesome domestic violence case.”

Authorities provided identifying details, noting Patrick is an identical twin but has unique marks and tattoos, including an old stab wound on his right hand, a left arm half-sleeve tattoo featuring a house and scroll, and a full sleeve on his right arm. Officials also said he has known affiliations with a local gang, does not own a vehicle, and may have been seeking rides from strangers.

Patrick surrendered to authorities on January 30 at the Hammond substation without incident. “Patrick turned himself in to us at our Hammond substation without incident following news reports that included the sheriff recommending he do so before the victim’s family got to him,” Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Ashley Rodrigue told Oxygen.com.

The relationship between Patrick and the victim remains unclear, though the sheriff’s office confirmed the pair were living together, and the alleged captivity occurred in their shared home.

The victim has been released from the hospital and continues her recovery in a safe location, Rodrigue added. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be forthcoming.
