DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — An 18-year-old man from Florida was tased by police after allegedly trying to steal vehicles from a BMW dealership and then attempting to take the truck of a responding officer.

Jayden Brown faces three counts of grand theft of a motor vehicle, burglary of an occupied dwelling, and criminal mischief. The incident occurred on the evening of Jan. 14.

According to authorities, Brown, along with his girlfriend and a friend, went to a BMW dealership in Daytona Beach around 5 p.m. Despite having no money or credit, they tried to buy several vehicles, according to a charging affidavit obtained by Law&Crime.

Brown reportedly “had not slept for several days” and repeatedly told his girlfriend he planned to become rich and buy three BMWs. His friend told police that Brown “has not been in the right state of mind lately,” and the group left and returned to the dealership three times “to figure out how to purchase the vehicle.”

Authorities said Brown argued with dealership management about not being able to buy a car. On his final visit, he allegedly tried to enter multiple vehicles and stated he “was going to take the vehicle and leave” before running to an employee-only area.

Brown reportedly entered a BMW X7 and appeared to search for the start/stop button. An employee said that while cleaning the car, he heard coworkers yelling for someone to leave, and then Brown jumped out of the vehicle.

Both Brown’s girlfriend and friend told police they were unaware of his intentions.

Body camera footage released by the Daytona Beach Police Department shows an officer arriving at the scene. The video captures Brown running around the back of the officer’s truck. When the officer instructs him to get on the ground, Brown opens the truck door, prompting the officer to deploy a taser. He is then seen handcuffed and searched while officers speak to him.

During the footage, Brown makes several statements, including claiming ties to the military and asserting he hadn’t stolen anything yet. He also demanded, “Get me out these cuffs or you lose your job tomorrow.”

Brown was taken to a local hospital for evaluation before being transported to police headquarters. Authorities say he attempted to detach a camera during transport and later damaged a holding cell security camera.

Brown’s girlfriend and friend were not taken into custody. He made his first court appearance the following day and is scheduled for an arraignment on Feb. 10. He is not currently listed in the Volusia County jail.
