U.S. immigration officials marked Valentine’s Day with a pointed social media message encouraging individuals in the country illegally to voluntarily return home.
On Saturday, the official account of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection shared a video showing a bus arriving at an airport, where immigration officers were waiting. The video depicts passengers exiting the bus and being escorted toward an aircraft for departure to their countries of origin.
Playing in the background is Elvis Presley’s classic song “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” The video concludes with a message aimed at those in the country unlawfully: “Spend Valentine’s Day with a loved one. Self-deport today.”
The accompanying caption reinforces the message: “Don’t wait, self-deport today and spend this Valentine’s Day with the one you love. We will even give you $2,600 to take them out.”

In January, the Department of Homeland Security announced a program offering a $2,600 exit bonus and complimentary travel arrangements for individuals who choose to voluntarily depart the United States using the CBP Home Mobile App. The updated incentive represents an increase from the previous $1,000 stipend, raising the total by $1,600.
