Mexican Restaurant Owner Under Fire for Offering ICE Agents Free Meals Fires Back at Leftists: ‘They Need to Look for Jesus’
An immigrant businessman from El Salvador is drawing backlash from the left after publicly backing law enforcement.
Jorge Rivas, owner of Sammy’s Mexican Grill in Catalina, has spent the past five years providing complimentary meals to law enforcement officers. The controversy only erupted recently when it became widely known that his standing offer also includes agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to Fox News.
Rivas explained that the issue gained attention after a local reporter asked whether the free-meal policy posted in his restaurant applied to ICE officers as well. He said he answered without hesitation that it did.
“They’re federal law enforcement agents,” Rivas said, noting they serve under the leadership of Donald Trump and enforce laws that have existed for decades. He added that those same immigration statutes were enforced under past administrations, including Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. For him, offering a free meal is simply a gesture of appreciation for officers who risk their safety.
The situation intensified after a video about the policy was shared on Instagram by Pulso, and later circulated on X. Since then, Rivas says his restaurant has been flooded with angry phone calls and negative online reviews.
He described the repeated insults and one-star ratings as frustrating, particularly when reviewers accuse the restaurant of unsanitary conditions or claim they became ill after eating there. Many of the reviews appear on Yelp and Google, where critics have posted harsh comments.
Fox characterized Rivas as an outspoken supporter of President Trump. He argues that his critics are motivated by what he calls “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” and claims that some activists don’t just complain online but also protest in ways he believes endanger federal officers.
Rivas has responded directly to several negative reviews. In one exchange, a customer mocked a burrito dish, describing it as a culinary disaster. Rivas fired back sarcastically, calling it a “King Lobster burrito made for royalty” and joking that perhaps the reviewer simply didn’t appreciate it.
When another customer criticized both the food and Rivas’s political views, suggesting he focus less on politics and more on cooking, Rivas replied briefly: “Simply TDS syndrome!”
Supporters say his willingness to stand his ground — and even respond with humor — shows resilience. Rather than accept what he sees as political intimidation, Rivas continues to defend both his business practices and his support for law enforcement.
