Etsy sellers paid to curse evil exes claim they’re being persecuted by the online marketplace

Trouble is brewing on Etsy.

Some sellers who offered occult and spiritual services say they’ve recently been removed from the online marketplace, years after Etsy formally banned the sale of spells, enchantments, and other supernatural services under its policies.

The issue gained attention on social media as customers praised the work of online practitioners who had advertised services such as clairvoyant readings, love and protection rituals, prosperity intentions, weather blessings for weddings, soulmate sketches, and even curses. Despite their popularity with certain buyers, Etsy’s rules have prohibited the sale of spellcasting and similar services since at least 2015.

Now, several of those sellers say their shops have been taken down.

Beatrix, who operated under the name Celestial Craft Spells, said she was among those removed from the platform and described the experience as upsetting.

“On Etsy, witches had a place where we could complete our work without discrimination,” she told The Post, noting that the platform’s advertising tools had helped her connect with customers.

“Suddenly, and quietly, they have removed us with no real explanations, whether it’s an immediate ban or slowly taking down our listings,” said Beatrix, 62. “For some of us, this was our livelihood.”

She said she has since launched her own website and is building a presence on social media. She also applied to sell on a newer platform called Witchly, which caters specifically to spiritual practitioners.

“Customers will still seek spiritual work whether it’s Etsy or not, but they are less protected now,” she said.

Beatrix added that some of her clients, who had pending requests, were left confused when her shop disappeared without notice.

In a TikTok video that has been viewed more than a million times, customer Carol Jay said she was surprised to find that her usual seller’s Etsy shop had closed.

“I was very alarmed. I couldn’t message her or anything like that,” Jay said.

She later contacted the seller, who told her that Etsy was enforcing its policy by removing spellcasting services.

Etsy declined to comment on the situation.

Some sellers have begun moving their services to personal websites or other platforms, while former customers say they were caught off guard by the sudden disappearance of familiar shops.

“Website witch just doesn’t hit the same,” Jay said in her video. She added that she still thinks of her former provider as “my Etsy witch,” regardless of where the service is now offered.

In the video’s comment section, viewers shared similar reactions, with some describing the situation as a “witch hunt” and others joking that Etsy might face supernatural consequences.
