The Republican National Committee has significantly outpaced Democrats in fundraising ahead of the midterm elections, building nearly a $100 million advantage by the end of 2025, according to year-end filings with the Federal Election Commission.
As Democrats have faced financial challenges during President Trump’s time in office, the RNC reported raising $172 million in 2025 and finishing the year with $95 million in cash on hand. By comparison, the Democratic National Committee raised $145 million, ended the year with $14 million on hand, and carried $17 million in debt into the new year.
In the battle for control of Congress, the fundraising gap is narrower. House Republicans closed out one of their stronger years, bringing in $13 million in December to finish with more than $117 million raised by the National Republican Congressional Committee, their main campaign arm. House Democrats were close behind at $115 million. Both committees entered 2026 with roughly $50 million in cash on hand, according to the filings submitted to the FEC.
Senate fundraising totals were also similar. The National Republican Senatorial Committee raised $88 million in 2025 and ended the year with $19.3 million available. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee brought in $79.8 million but finished with $21.7 million in cash on hand.
House Speaker Mike Johnson said Sunday on Fox News that he is “bullish” about Republicans’ chances of gaining seats in November. Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said, “Momentum is on our side.”
According to reporting from The Washington Post, another factor could influence the races: groups aligned with President Trump reportedly hold nearly $400 million that could be used to support Republican congressional candidates.
