A 19-year-old man from suburban Chicago has been charged in connection with a deadly incident that followed a Facebook Marketplace transaction involving a pickup truck.
Nedas Revuckas, 19, of Westmont, is accused of killing 30-year-old Eliza Morales inside her Downers Grove apartment on Monday evening. Morales was six months pregnant at the time. Authorities also allege that Revuckas set fire to the apartment after the attack.
Revuckas faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, intentional homicide of an unborn child, robbery, arson, and aggravated animal cruelty. Prosecutors say the animal cruelty charge stems from injuries sustained by the family’s dog during the incident.
According to court records, Morales’ husband had listed a 1994 Ford Ranger for sale on Facebook Marketplace over the weekend. Revuckas allegedly responded to the listing, visited the home, and left with the vehicle. On Monday, the two men exchanged messages arranging for Revuckas to return to the apartment so license plates could be exchanged and a bill of sale completed. Morales was home at the time.
Surveillance footage reportedly shows Morales interacting with Revuckas outside the apartment before allowing him back inside. Investigators say a struggle later occurred near the doorway. Roughly 20 minutes afterward, smoke was seen coming from the apartment, prompting a response from fire crews.
First responders found Morales inside the residence with multiple sharp-force injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say Revuckas was unhappy with the condition of the truck he had purchased.
Revuckas is being held in the DuPage County Jail while prosecutors continue to review surveillance footage and other evidence in the case.
